NCF: More Channels in the Base Slab of Rs 130 With the new tariff order, Trai has asked the Distribution Platform Operators (DPO) to offer 200 channels for the base price of Rs 130. Further, the maximum NCF that can be charged by a DPO cannot exceed Rs 160 per month. The new tariff order also lets the DPO charge different rates for certain regions/areas. Adjusted Rates for Multi TV Connections For those with Multi TV connections, the new tariff order would ensure that full NCF is not changed but rather a DPO can levy a maximum of 40% NCF from the declared charges on the primary connection....

One of the biggest issues in making 5G a faster reality for India is the spectrum pricing of the airwaves. The 5G airwaves are priced very much in the premium range as per the telcos. The telecom operators have made it clear that if they have to overpay for the 5G spectrum, they will ignore spending any money in the spectrum auctions. Act Fibernet, the third largest wired broadband service provider in India has revamped its broadband plans in seven cities including Hyderabad, Guntur, Eluru, Nellore, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam. The operator with 1.69 million subscribers as on July 31, 2020 has been revamping its fibernet plans since late September. Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) will be very happy with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) after the SUC (Spectrum Usage Charges) order. The telecom department has removed the 3% floor rate on SUC and this would help the telcos in saving a lot of future outflows towards these statutory fees. The telecom operators had recently told DoT that while removing SUC from future spectrum acquired through auctions is a good move, it wouldn’t mean anything if the SUC floor rate of 3% of AGR (adjusted gross revenue) is not removed....
