5G smartphones and 5G bands have made a lot of noise in the Indian market. Most of all because the government and the telcos have not given a lot of clarity on which spectrum bands will 5G be rolled out in India. This affects each and every Indian individual since if he/she is going to purchase a 5G smartphone and they don’t even know which smartphones support the correct spectrum bands for 5G, they might end up spending all their money on the wrong devices. But here is something that you should know about the 5G bands.
5G Bands That Will Be Supported In India
First of all, it is worth noting that each and every telecom operator, including Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Bharti Airtel, are testing their 5G networks in the 3.5 GHz spectrum allotted to them by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). For the unaware, this is the N78 5G band. Further, what’s interesting is that most of the 5G smartphones in India come with support for N78 bands. This will ensure that all the devices that come with N78 band support be future proof for 5G. Note that the official announcement from the telecom operators and the government is yet to come. As of now, the government is even unsure of whether to go with the 5Gi standard developed by the TSDSI or the 5G standards developed by the 3GPP. Purchasing a 5G smartphone just for the sake of 5G isn’t the best decision right now. This is because even if 5G is launched in the first half of 2022, it will only be available across India after years. Right now, investing in a good 4G smartphone even for the next 3 to 4 years is a good option. 5G phones are way too overpriced at the moment, which means staying away from them is the right to do for now.
